Our 2021 Summer BASIC program, a comeback, hands-on program, attracted several ex-BASIC participants to return.  Amassing over 800 hours of volunteer time during the twenty-one-day, June program, the young adults contributed mightily to the success of the program.  On average just over sixty students gained seven months to grade level in math and three months in reading.  BASIC volunteers tutored, played games, set up the testing computers, sharpened pencils and patched skinned knees during the 137-hour program.   Many of them have been in the program for at least eight years as students and volunteers.
