As spring baseball seasons begin, thousands of volunteers will be called upon to take care of baseball diamonds across the country. Here are some field maintenance guidelines courtesy of one of our baseball league clients.

Game Days
Home team is responsible for preparation of the field prior to the game. Visitor team is responsible for breaking down field after game.  Visitor team only breaks down field if they are the last game of the day.

Home Team Preparation
1. Carry bases, hand rake, shovel, batters box template, and striper with paint and line to field
2. Hand drag infield 18” from grass and home plate area. Hand rake high spots to make a complete even playing surface
3. Unreel hose and drag to pitchers mound
4. Install quick coupler key  behind pitcher mound and turn on to water field
5. Reel hoses onto reel and stow quick coupler key back
6. Remove base pegs covers and put bases in
7. Line batters boxes and field

Visitor Team Breakdown
1. Remove bases and put base peg covers in pegs
2. Hand drag infield 18” from grass and home plate area. Hand rake high spots to make a complete even playing surface
3. Unreel hose and drag to pitchers mound
4. Install quick coupler key  behind pitcher mound and turn on to water field
5. Reel hoses onto reel and stow quick coupler key back
6. Clean all trash from dugouts

Practice Days
All Teams after every practice
1. Hand drag infield 18” from grass and home plate area. Hand rake high spots to make a complete even playing surface
2. Unreel hose and drag to pitchers mound
3. Install quick coupler key  behind pitcher mound and turn on to water field
4. Water field for 10 minutes
5. Reel hoses onto reel and stow quick coupler key back
6. Clean all trash from dugouts

NOTE: 
The best way to water all fields is to use the hose and saturate the field until it becomes shiny after every game or practice. If you use the sprinklers, you must also use the hose to water the areas which are not reached by the sprinklers.  If you use the quick coupler sprinkler when it becomes available you may do so as well.
