Are home runs ruining baseball?

This article is critical of broadcast announce John Smoltz, not because something he is saying is inaccurate...but because he's telling the truth. His contention is that baseball is being diminished because no one plays the game anymore. Instead of moving runners over, trying to get on base with a bunt against the shift, drawing walks, all players today want to do is hit bombs. It's either a strikeout or a fly out or an occasional home run. We don't think Smoltz is a curmudgeon for expressing these opinions, we want to hear more.
